You may detect the luxurious fragrance of Scentsation Honeysuckle (Lonicera periclymenum ‘Scentsation’) wafting through your garden before you even see the source of such sweetness! But when you do see this plant, your senses are doubly rewarded. Yellow-and-white flowers burst forth in clusters from long vines that adorn trellises or fences. And for triple the reward, you won’t have to fuss over this low-maintenance plant!

Train it Upward
Left to its own natural growth habit, Scentsation Honeysuckle will scramble along the ground, which makes it an excellent groundcover. But if you provide support for this vining plant, you won’t miss its floral display from spring through summer. You may have to tie the young vines to a trellis or fence to get them started, but once the plant is established, it’ll take off on its own. You can also train Scentsation Honeysuckle up through an obelisk, where its branches will cascade over the top!

Not a Lot of Care Needed
Unlike many native honeysuckle species, Scentsation is not invasive — it’s specifically bred to be restrained so it won’t take over your garden.

Pruning- You won’t have to prune Scentsation Honeysuckle for it to bloom; in fact, you may never have to trim this plant. If you want to make a little nip here and tuck there just to shape it, prune it in the summer after it flowers.

Soil- Scentsation Honeysuckle is not fussy about the type of soil where it grows — it’s adaptable to a variety of soils.

Sun- Plant Scentsation Honeysuckle where it receives plenty of sun. It’ll grow thicker and bloom more profusely in full sun, but it will also tolerate some shade.

Water- Scentsation Honeysuckle responds best to moist, but well-drained soil.

Fertilizer.- You only have to fertilize this plant twice a year to keep it in tip-top shape. Use a slow-release, all-purpose fertilizer — once in early spring and again after the first wave of blooms fades.

How Many Plants do I Need?
With some plants, “less is more.” But if you want to cover a fence or trellis with Scentsation Honeysuckle for a romantic cottage-garden look, space plants every 5 to 6 feet. As a deciduous plant, Scentsation Honeysuckle will drop its leaves in autumn, but the weave of its vines on a fence in winter helps screen the view behind it.

A Feast for Birds
Not too many plants offer a nectar source for hummingbirds as well as a fruit source for other types of birds. Hummingbirds are crazy about Scentsation Honeysuckle!
