Unique, Colorful & Adaptable
With thick, dense foliage and bright blue flowers, Big Blue Liriope is a garden delight. It is extremely hardy, and has become very popular in landscaping.
The abundant blooms are held up to ten inches above thick dark green foliage, and it grows as a perennial in Zones 6-11.
The grassy locks of evergreen leaves make a lovely edging along a flower garden or mixed border. It can also serve as a reliable ground cover or on a slope to control soil erosion. Big Blue is a landscape problem solver, as they are versatile and very tough.
This plant will thrive in those dry shady areas, and is especially useful under the canopies of large or wide trees where other plants may wither. Try it in a large container in front of a larger specimen plant for a striking color and texture contrast.
Big Blue Liriope starts the growing season as a bright grassy tuft, and the leaves will grow longer and begin to arch in the summer. The tall purple-blue flowers mark the end of summer and remain lovely throughout the fall season, eventually turning to shiny black berries that can persist all winter over the dark evergreen leaves.
