Great for Commercial Plum Growers- Difficult for Home Growers
The Burbank Plum Tree is a favorite of commercial growers because it produces more fruit than the average plum tree. However, it is difficult to maintain if you’re a home grower. That’s why we recommend the Methley Plum Tree for home growers.
This plum tree is one of a variety of Japanese plum trees that were introduced into the United States 200 years ago. It immediately became a favorite among commercial growers because the Burbank Plum tree grows branches that have more “forks” in them than the average plum tree.
Unfortunately, they’re prone to diseases. Unless you have a wide variety of chemicals you can spray every weekend, we can’t recommend growing this tree.
Burbank Plum Trees will grow up to 15-25 feet wide and 10-15 feet tall. Once the tree matures, it will produce a purplish-red plum with a sweet yellow pulp, which will be ready to harvest in late summer.
